Flu vaccines

June 12, 2022

The following groups are at higher risk of complications from influenza and the government is still providing free flu vaccines:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 6 months and over
  • children 6 months to 5 years of age
  • People with medical conditions including
    • heart problems
    • lung problems including asthma
    • diabetes or kidney or liver disease
    • multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and seizure disorders
    • impaired immunity, including HIV, malignancy and chronic steroid use
  • pregnant women (influenza vaccine can be given at any stage of pregnancy)
  • people aged 65 years and over (vaccine that is specifically designed to produce a higher immune response is available for this group).

If you are due for your covid booster you can have the flu vaccine and covid vaccine on the same day.
