If no one in the family gets COVID, that is the best-case scenario, but it doesn’t hurt to think through how you would manage a case in the family.
Some of the things to consider making sure you have:
- a thermometer and even consider buying a pulse oximeter which means you can keep a check on your pulse and oxygen levels. Anyone with COVID and at increased risk of complications should have a pulse oximeter delivered, but that can take a few days and with high demand may not happen.
- back up supplies of usual medications just in case you can’t get to the chemist
- Panadol and ibuprofen and hydrolyte and a saline nose spray to manage symptoms of COVID
- Supplies of masks, gloves, hand sanitiser
- Food for your pets
- Food supplies -just enough for a week or two (e.g. baby food, long-life milk, frozen and tinned foods
Think also about
- If one family member is infected, can you isolate them in the house and how will you do this. If the space is too small, do you have a plan for other family members?
- Even though unlikely if you or family members go to hospital what will you do in terms of childcare and pets etc
- How will you entertain yourself if you are isolated?
